Dan Marino Boulevard Naming Ceremony Held
August 21, 2000
Miami-Dade Mayor Alex Penelas and Chairwoman Gwen Margolis, along with other County Commissioners, today presented former Miami Dolphins quarterback Dan Marino with his own street designation. The ceremony was held in front of Pro Player Stadium at 199th street and NW 26th avenue. From today forward, 199th street will be forever known as Dan Marino Boulevard.

The event was attended by Dan Marino and his family, Dolphins owner H. Wayne Huizenga, Mayor Penelas, Chairwoman Margolis, and friends and former teammates of the Dolphins quarterback.

On June 20, 2000, the Board of County Commissioners voted to rename Northwest 199th Street, from 57th Avenue to 2nd Avenue, Dan Marino Boulevard. "This is a momentous occasion for Miami-Dade County," said Mayor Penelas. "Aside from having every possible NFL passing record, Dan Marino is truly an outstanding South Florida citizen. His accomplishments in the community off the football field are unparalleled; they include the Dan Marino Foundation, the Dan Marino Children’s Hospital, his volunteer work with the United Way and so many other charitable events and community building efforts."

"I am honored that the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners and Mayor Penelas are naming the street in front of Pro Player Stadium ‘Dan Marino Boulevard’. It has been a privilege to play in front of South Florida fans my entire career, and I am grateful that the County Commission and Mayor have chosen to recognize my special relationship with this community in such a fashion," added Dan Marino.
